Samples

Samples and data generated by the study of samples represent one of the primary foundations of Geoscience research and are key to our knowledge of Earth’s dynamical systems and evolution. They provide a basis for progress across disciplines, from the study of global climate change and paleoclimate, to present and past biogeochemical cycles, to magmatic processes and mantle dynamics. The central role played by samples is evident in the enormous resources that the science community invests into major sampling campaigns such as coring and dredging programs in the oceans, and expeditions to difficult to access land regions.

SESAR aims to facilitate access and sharing of samples and the management of sample-based data in support of research and education by operating a registry that ensures unique identification of samples and preservation of sample metadata.
